Bahamian held after cocaine find

A BAHAMIAN man travelling to the United States was arrested at the Lynden Pindling International Airport after authorities found more than one pound of cocaine in his luggage. 

According to police, shortly after 7am Monday, the man was detained by United States Customs and Boarder Protection officials in the US pre-clearance departure

lounge at LPIA after one and a half pounds of of cocaine were discovered in his luggage.

The suspect was handed over to Drug Enforcement Unit officers and is expected to appear in court later this week to be formally charged.

Police also said an illegal firearm was seized off the streets of New Providence on Monday.

Shortly after 3pm, officers from the Central Division were on routine patrol on Infant View Road when they observed a man acting in a suspicious manner. The man, upon seeing the officers, dropped a white shirt and fled. The officers gave chase but were unable to catch the suspect. Officers made a check of the shirt and recovered a .45 Colt pistol along with ammunition.

The investigation continues into this matter.
