In the BFA, UB Mingoes top United 2-0

THE University of the Bahamas Mingoes defeated United Football Club 2-0 for the first win of the Bahamas Football Association season as the defending champions look to repeat this season.

Tristian Arnold (mechanical engineering - sophomore) scored in the 20th minute off an assist from James Carey (accounting - junior) to take the early lead in the match at the Roscow A.L. Davies Field on Sunday.

Arnold wasn’t done on the day though. In the 35th minute he assisted on the side’s second goal when Stuart Hanna (tourism management – senior) found the back of the net to go up 2-0.

The match was very physical with both sides wanting to pull off a win. United had five opportunities in the second half but just could not score a goal. The Mingoes went on to win 2-0 and now have a 1-0-1 win-loss-draw record.

“Even though we got a win I don’t feel proud about it,” Tristian Arnold said. “We had a lot of mistakes on the field and even though this is our second game this is stuff we should have already fixed from last season. Some guys are new on the team so I understand it. We have the potential to win it and compete with the best but we just need to fix it.”

The Mingoes don’t play again until December 2 when the side is scheduled to face Renegades FC 5pm at the Roscow A.L. Davies Field.
