St Augustine's College Big Red Machine only hold a slim 58-point margin over their nearest rival, the Queen's College Comets, heading into today's finale of the Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools' inter-school track and field championships.
The Big Red Machine, picking up just two of the eight titles in the marquee 100 metres contested yesterday at Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium, leads with 710.50 points compared to the Comets' 652.50.
St Anne's Bluewaves are sitting in third with 233, St John's is fourth with 158.50 and St Andrew's Hurricanes round out the top five with 129.50.
Last year, after the first two days of competition, St Augustine's had posted a total of 711, 115 ahead of the 556 from Queen's College. St Anne's was third with 193 and St John's fourth with 183.5.
Highlighting yesterday's performances was a stunning 11.48 seconds by Shaunae Miller for a new meet record to lead a 1-2 sweep for SAC in the senior girls 100 metres with Devynne Charlton taking second (11.92) and Aquinas College's Carmiesha Cox third (11.99).
In the process, Miller also went under the three major junior international meets qualifying times for the Carifta Games (11.90), Junior Central American and Caribbean Championships (11.90) and the IAAF World Junior Championships (11.96).
Miller, by the way, showed her versatility when she posted another record, throwing the shot put 13.33 metres or 43-feet, 9-inches, which surpassed both the Carifta and Jr CAC qualifying marks of 12m.
Winning the senior boys' century was Anthony Adderley from St John's in 11.24. Charles W Saunders' Kristian Williams (11.25) and Andrae Stubbs (11.56) had to settle for second and third.
Except for the bantam division, all of the other straight away races were won by Queen's College.
In the bantam girls, SAC's Tyler Davis (13.26) won over Keneisha Kelly (13.87) of Charles W Saunders while the bantam boys' crown went to St Andrew's Julian Brown (13.20) over Charles W Saunders' Shone Davis (13.90).
The junior girls title went to Andira Ferguson (12.75) for Queen's College's series of victories. Taj Dorsett (13.01) and Catalyn Blayre (13.04) got second and third for SAC.
Nitchev Casseus (11.65) out-sprinted team-mate Jyles Romer (12.46) in the junior boys' race. Michael Troups of Charles W Saunders was third in 12.51.
Jenae Ambrose (12.12) got a big win for Queen's College in the intermediate girls over SAC's Makeya White (12.36) and Aquinas College's Shazell Rolle (12.55).
And in the intermediate boys division, Cliff Reasis (11.09) wrapped it up for Queen's College. SAC's Lorman Johnson (11.20) split the pair of Comets for second with Reasis' team-mate Ian Kerr (11.25) taking third.
One other final of note on the track saw Daren Young of Queen's College pick up his second victory in two days. Young, who ran a Carifta qualifier in the 1,500 on day one, did another in the 3,000 (9:46.74) to surpass the mark of 9:58.20.
On the field, SAC's Brashe Wood led a few meet record-breaking performances. Her feat came in the intermediate girls' discus with her heave of 34.10m (111-10).
A pair of SAC students did the same in the junior boys division as Dondre Rutherford won with 41.08m (134-9) and Adrian Grant followed with 35.64m (116-11).
The meet is expected to wrap up today as SAC attempts to secure its 24th consecutive victory.
