Club to present 'Big Time Amateur Boxing'

By RENALDO DORSETT Sports Reporter rdorsett@tribunemedia.net CONTINUING its line of shows to give maximum exposure to budding young fighters, a leading local boxing club will stage another event as the year comes to a close. Champion Amateur Boxing Club (CABC) and its development programme will present the initial installment of "Big Time Amateur Boxing" at the LW Young Junior High School campus on November 26. Beginning at 5pm, the show is expected to feature several rising amateur boxing stars in competition for Most Improved Boxer, Most Outstanding Boxer and Best Fight of the Night. Based on the outcome and productivity of past events, CABC executive Ray Minus Jr expects the trend to continue this weekend. "Quite a few of our young boxers will be able to make their debuts and that is awesome because we are trying to get more kids involved in the programme, that is our aim," Minus Jr said. "We are very excited about this next week. Many kids are preparing who have not fought yet and are looking to make their debuts. The main event will feature a welterweight bout between Anwar Davis and Keiron Knowles. Other bouts will include Tavio Adderley vs Raymond Hudson, Ahaquille Johnson vs Allen Joeseph, Neko Olibrice vs Walnick Richards, Philip James vs Brandon Bastian, along with six other matches. "So many successful good things came out of this programme and these shows in particular, some of the biggest names in Bahamian boxing today. Even persons who went on to have thriving professional careers in all walks of life, not just in boxing. "It has produced Olympic boxers, Commonwealth boxers and Bahamian champions and we are happy to be able to continue this event. This will give the boys a wealth of experience in the country," said Minus Jr. "We want to showcase everybody and really, really bring boxing together and get everybody involved in these tournaments.
