ON January 19, 2012, the Rotary Clubs of the Bahamas will celebrate fifty (50) years of existence in the Bahamas. This is indeed a fantastic achievement.
The month of January has been dedicated as a month of celebration of this milestone. A special thank you is extended to the hardworking Rotarians who, behind the scenes, have worked tirelessly to make this month's activities "a time to remember."
Tonight's Ball is our inaugural event. We are pleased to have so many Rotarians, both local and international, attend this occasion and we are particularly delighted to welcome the International President of Rotary who has amended his schedule to join us at this celebration.
Over the years, the clubs within the Bahamas have made great strides in assisting with nation-building through their many efforts. Of great reward has been the consolidated effort of the clubs to join with one voice in executing many major projects over the years.
Undoubtedly, the need for Rotary is essential when we reflect on the concerns facing our nation and the issues of the world. Our brand is well-respected and our achievements are notable. We recognise that our efforts have been successful as a result of a supportive community who have come alongside us in performing our many community service activities.
While consumed with many opportunities to assist locally, we have been appropriate partners in assisting with concerns present in our global village. It is this holistic viewpoint and compassion that define who we are.
I entreat all Rotarians in the Bahamas to be proud of what we have accomplished together. While we pause to give thanks and appropriately recognise our achievements, we are well aware that the journey is not complete.
May the flames of the Rotary spirit ever burn brightly in our souls, as well as build communities and brighten hearts. Congratulations on fifty (50) years of Service!
Yours in Rotary,
Charles Sealy II
Assistant District Governor
Rotary Clubs of The Bahamas
