TEN Bahamians were trained to international mediation standards following a five-day course conducted for the first time ever in the Bahamas by the London School of Mediation.
The training course was held between February 6-10 at the British Colonial Hilton, at the request of Bahamas-based insolvency and law firms. The 10 delegates, including senior attorneys, court staff from the UK, insolvency practitioners, government health service officials, insurance and construction experts were trained to international standards.
Upon successful completion of the examination at the end of the course, delegates can expect to receive full accreditation as trained mediators. At the conclusion of the five-day course, the delegates voted to establish a Bahamian Association of Mediators Chapter.
The Nassau course follows three successful Grand Cayman courses, and two similar BVI courses in Tortola in 2011. The LSM course is recognised around the world, and is at the leading edge of UK and European mediation training skills.
LSM offers both open courses, and in-house courses. Leading law firms, major government departments, and accountancy/insurance companies regionally are involved in the in-house training. It is committed to providing ongoing mediation training and support in the region for a minimum of five years, and is booking for the next course in Grand Cayman on March 26 -30.
