Giants, Cybots pull off victories

THE New Providence Basketball Association continued its 2012 regular season at the CI Gibson Gymnasium with the Commonwealth Bank Giants and the Mailboat Cybots both pulling off victories Saturday night. In the Giants' 108-96 win over the PJ's Stingers, Gameliel Rose had a game high 30 points with 14 rebounds to lead a balanced scoring attack. Ricardo Pierre had 25 points, Nico Scavella 15 points and Raif Ferguson helped out with 11. The Giants led 28-18 after the first quarter, 52-43 at the half and 79-77 at the end of the third period. For the Stingers, Devon Ferguson scored 21 points with eight rebounds, Bathlette LaFleur had 16 points and 10 rebounds and both Dorshlyn Baker and Kevin Hinsey both scored 15 points. The other game saw the Cybots clobber the Real Deal Shockers 107-98. Brian Bain led four players in double figures with 24 points, six rebounds and six assists. Ahmad Bootle had 22 points, Nelson Joseph 19 and Eugene Bain had 14 points, 11 rebounds and four steals. The Mailboat led from start to finish with a 22-16 margin at the end of the first quarter, 44-38 at the half and 72-58 after the third. For the Shockers, Jeremy Hutchinson had a double double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Corey Williams had 16 points and nine rebounds, Floyd Armbrister and Barry Carter both had 13, Antonio Ferguson 12 and Chrisoff Stuart 11. The NPSA is slated to be back in action with another double header at the CI Gibson Gymnasium tonight. In the opener at 7:30pm, the College of the Bahamas Caribs are set to play the BTC Digitals and in the feature contest, the Mailboat Cybots are scheduled to face the Arnold Forbes Pros.
