First impressions are lasting ones, so why not focus on what your house guests see the minute they arrive at your home?
A beautiful front door can transform the look of your entire home.
It can begin with lighting and paint colours, and end with accessories that stand the test of time.
Let there be light.
Add ambience with a hanging lantern in copper or stainless steel, put a frosted glass bulb in the fixture to allow for softer light and less glare.
If you're up for the challenge of change, dare to be different.
Colour it bold... give it a fresh lick of paint! Nothing has a bigger impact than fresh paint on a front door - it boosts your confidence and feeling every time you or your guests arrive home.
You can do this yourself by sanding the door with 220-grit sandpaper, a prime so the paint adheres better.
When it comes to the paint, a semi-gloss or high gloss will help prevent moisture from getting in and forming mildew.
To finish your entrance off, add greenery, a house number or name, and accessorise with a door knocker.
You can get a warmer welcome with potted plants, but make sure to find low-maintenance species such as succulents or a fichus.
Playing with names and numbers helps to make your home feel recognisable and complete.
Make them easily visible and use weather friendly material like ceramic, or stainless steel.
Have your house name carved out of driftwood, a favourite wood that can be found on any beach or seascape.
And last but not least, a door knocker. A nautical themed anchor or something simple yet decorative help to finish off your front door like a piece of jewellery.
