MAN FACES COURT OVER ATTEMPTED MURDER

A MAN was arraigned in Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon in connection with a recent shooting, which left the victim in critical condition in hospital. Derek Duphon, 29, of New Providence Isles, appeared before Chief Magistrate Roger Gomez in Court One, at the new Nassau Street Court complex on a charge of attempted murder. It is alleged that he attempted to kill 26-year-old Donovan Brown on Sunday, January 15. On the day in question, the victim was shot several times at a home on Claridge Road. The prosecution claims Duphon is responsible. The accused was not required to enter a plea to the charge due to the nature of the offence. Chief Magistrate Gomez informed Duphon that the matter would be fast-tracked to the Supreme Court for trial when the prosecution presents him with a Voluntary Bill of Indictment on Thursday, March 22. Duphon was remanded to Fox Hill Prison.
