QUEENS AND COMETS POWERING THROUGH

by RENALDO DORSETT Sports Reporter rdorsett@tribunemedia.net KNOWN as perennial contenders in track and field, soccer and swimming the Queens College Comets are establishing themselves as a basketball powerhouse in the Bahamas Association of Secondary Schools. In each of the league's four divisions, the Comets are not just reeling off win after win, but are dismantling opponents by some of the most lopsided margins recorded in the league thus far this season. After an impressive showing last season, and in a number of preseason tournaments against competition in various leagues, the Comets' Senior Boys appear to be one of the most noteworthy contenders for the BAISS title. In their latest outing, the Comets scored a 73-66 win over the Aquinas Aces. Led by senior swingman George Zonicle, who totaled 15 points, the Comets have added several new members from its junior ranks including Dominique Bethel who added 13 points, and newcomer to the Comets' program Wilton Johnson who also added 13. The Comets Junior Boys program looks to repeat as BAISS Champions after losing quite a few members to the senior ranks. They topped the CW Saunders Cougars 57- 43 yesterday to remain undefeated. The Comets return dynamic guard Dejour Adderley who scored a game high 23 points, while Edajh Fawkes and Isaiah Collie each chipped in with 11. The Comets Senior Girls appear to be on a mission to put a fitting end to a season that ended last year in a championship series loss at the hands of the St. Johns Giants. Yesterday, the Comets shut out the CW Saunders Cougars 73-0 with a game high scoring effort from Alexandria Marshall. They also remain undefeated on the year. The Junior Girls followed suit with a 50 point blowout over the Aquinas Aces, 58-8. The Comets' Ashanti Thompson led all scorers with 12 points while Ghalysa Swann added 10. * For more pictures, see pages 2&3.
