114 immigrants sent back to Haiti

THE Department of Immigration yesterday announced the successful repatriation of 114 Haitian immigrants to Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

The 87 men, 24 women and three children left Nassau on a Bahamasair flight at 2.30pm.

Last Saturday, the department repatriated another 113 Haitians to Port-au-Prince.

Of the 227 suspected illegal immigrants, 51 were detained in Elbow Cay, Abaco; 111 in New Providence; and the remaining 65 were found disbursed among various other islands.

Last year, the department repatriated 3,289 persons - 2,392 of them to Haiti.

The department said in a statement that it remains "committed to the timely and orderly apprehension and repatriation of those persons residing and working in the Bahamas illegally".
