Father and sons charged in connection with drugs find

FIVE men were charged in Magistrates Court yesterday in connection with two drug seizures in which a total of nearly a $900,000 worth of drugs were confiscated.

Three of the men, a father and his two sons, were arraigned in Court 8 before Deputy Chief Magistrate Carolita Bethell, along with a fourth man who was allegedly an accomplice.

Sharlton Bain, 55, Christopher Bain, 32, and Carlington Bain 25, were charged alongside 30-year-old Daveno Dickerson. They all pleaded not guilty.

It is claimed the group conspired to possess and import cocaine into the Bahamas on Saturday, March 31.

It is further claimed they imported and possessed 72 pounds of cocaine valued at $528,000, with the intent to supply.

Deputy Chief Magistrate Bethell told the men they would have a two-day trial on October 29 and 30.

They were not eligible for bail, and were remanded into custody until completion of the trial.

Dennis Ernest, 37, was the last of the five men to be arraigned on a drug charge.

It is claimed that on Saturday, March 31, he was in possession of 335 pounds of marijuana, valued at $335,000, with the intent to supply.

The Lucky Heart Corner resident plead not guilty.

He was supposed to be arraigned on additional charges, however it was noted by the court that a necessary document had not been produced.

Ernest is due to return to court on Friday, April 13.

He was remanded to Her Majesty's Prison, Fox Hill, until then.
