THOSE involved in politics should remember it is they who are indebted to the people - not the other way around - Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham reminded Dame Marguerite Pindling over the weekend.
On Friday, the wife of the late Sir Lynden Pindling accused Mr Ingraham of being "mean" to the former Prime Minister and leaving him with nothing after the PLP's 1992 election loss.
Mr Ingraham hit back at this accusation at a mass rally in Abaco on Saturday night, criticising Dame Marguerite as fond of the good life, and claiming neither he nor PLP leader Perry Christie were ever friends with her.
"I understand the good lady's hurt at losing the life of privilege she believed she is entitled to live at the expense of the Bahamian people forever and ever," he said.
"Well, power in this country belongs to the people and those of us who are fortunate enough to get elected should never forget that.
"They cause me to remember the saying: when you are rich, do not squander; when you are poor, do not cry. Many in the elite and leadership of that other party would do well to learn and remember that."
According to Mr Ingraham, a lack of regard for the voters themselves is a recurring theme with the PLP.
He said opposition members obsess about him at their rallies, but they never focus on the people who elected him to office.
The Prime Minister said he sees himself as a "gatekeeper" blocking the Progressive Liberal Party from returning to government.
Addressing his constituents in North Abaco, Mr Ingraham said he would welcome a visit from Perry Christie to his home town, so the PLP leader can compare the improvements there to the state of his own Centreville constituency.
"We'd like him to come to this town of Cooper's Town, where when I was a boy, we didn't have an outside toilet - I used to go in the bush. Most homes had a well to get water from. We fortunately had a pump, but most homes had a well. I'd like him to come here, walk through Cooper's Town and find me an outside toilet! I'd like him to walk, and find a house that doesn't have running water in Cooper's Town. Then I'd like him to go to Farm Road where he represented, and tell me what he finds there."
He added: "That's what leadership does and that's what good representation does."

Comrades a bear will attack a man if they are surprised, feel they are in danger, wish protect territory or if they have clubs, but never the dead. Volchers, and now this FNM regime’s PM, feed upon the dead. When you can’t defend you’re failed five years in power you first go after your own FNM MP’s, then attack the dead and his family.
A long time ago I stopped throwing up my arms in the air trying to understand this little-minded man. How else can you govern a Bahamaland which has more in the hundreds varieties of murders than there is in cheese, since he regained power back in 2007, and yet still have big enough balls to complain about “truth’ campaign poster.
Really, are you telling me that this wealthland bunch of FNM’s are so quickly disturbed when the PLP posts “truth” campaign posters but not a word when the hundreds of their fellow natives are murdered?
If I was running the PLP campaign the hell with some poster. I would line the moneyland roads along the eastern road with the real face of our broken Bahamaland, with hundreds of caskets, representing the hundreds of natives murdered since 2007, under their beloved fellow moneyland FNM regime. How long before the thugs reach the homes of the FNM moneylander’s?
Comrades while I’m all for the Cuckoos Rugby Club cementing their status as the dominant team in the Bahamas Rugby Football Union, you can rule out the thousands of the hurting financially natives when it comes to them even considering the cementing of this PM’s cuckoos FNM regime in another five years in power.

You have it all wrong. Take those same caskets and line them up in the PLP represented, crime infested communities where the murders were committed. PLP breeds contempt and bitterness, dependence and ignorance. That's why they rely so heavily on the inner city grass root communities to vote for them because PLP teaches those poor people to be non-thinkers. They cannot think beyond having some MP pay their light bill, buy them a turkey and ham, pay a phone bill - because that is what the PLP teaches them and they wait five years for the next round that the money bag will make when PLP rides into town again.

Coopers town is not the only settlement in the Bahamas, he don't need to gather voters from that constituency because he will win that hands down, but when you make this comment people from other islands can say what about us and see this as an insult.

So what are the voters saying in Centerville (Farm Road) who had PLP representation for 45 years now, 30 of which were under the PLP government with 5 of those years having PGC as the PM represent them AND a great number of them still tote water from public pumps, bathe in buckets, use outside toilets and live in squalor. Yes I'm sure they wish they had the PM representation of HAI instead. Yes they must be insulted - by their own MP.

This man has become a joke! Has he never toured the rest of Abaco? Even many in Nassau who have had inside crappers for years now are being forced to buy that no name toilet paper. You know what the 60,000 out of paychecks natives say about that no snme paper. "It just like John Wayne, cause it takes o crabpfrom anyone - including yuh bungy."

TAL That is a lie you should know better. I'm from Abaco and as a little boy to now I have seen the progress. I have the photos from a little boy. I have the video and I am proud to say that from 5 years to 30+ now, even after the hurricanes devastate Abaco, the people overcome and the place is beautiful. My only wish is that I want Treasure Cay to return to what it was. A tourist hub where the hotel there was booming back then.

Looking for disparaging, insulting, desperate, comments containing lots of profanity, bad grammar, bad spelling and downright dirty language? Just look at those comments posted by PLP's; be they on You Tube, political party websites, twitter, facebook, tribune, wherever, hands down!!! PLP synonomous with FILTH!

Visiting Nassau and enjoying old friends for nigh on sixty years is a blessing for which I remain most grateful. My family and I well recall the atmosphere of the late '60s.
It was a pleasure in 1999 to return via cruise ship to Nassau for the first time in many years and to enjoy the many fine improvements brought about by Mr. Ingraham.
My family and I have regularly returned to Nassau since, most recently last week to Nassau and Freeport for yet another most enjoyable visit since our return in 1999.
My family and I look forward to yet another fine visit to Nassau and the Bahamas in the imminent future. We love to savor the the beauty of the islands, visit the shops, and enjoy the company of many hospitable Bahamian friends and acquaintances over the decades.
We remain grateful for the improvements wrought by Mr. Ingraham and his administration.
It will be a pleasure to yet again visit Nassau and the Bahamas, as has it been for so many decades.

I have tried to have constructive conversations with PLP's but they are so emotional and they base all of their arguments on hear say and not facts. Also when they see that they are losing the argument they hurl insults and become beligerant. I therefore see no point in discussing politics with them until this election season is over.

@ BigD1 if you want to talk about getting emotional then try walking in the shoes of the families whose loved ones in the hundreds have been gunned down, under the rule of this moneyland FNM regime. Never once before, or during this campaign, has this PM or his failed minister of the natives security once apologized to them for the killing of family members. How in the hell can this FNM regime address the escalating murder rate if they think it is only the thugs on thugs killing each other. Even the young men who have gone astray are our brothers and sisters. If you're not educated and from elite homes I guess you simply don't matter to this moneyland FNM regime? The PLP puts up one "truth" poster and all hell breaks lose but not a mention by this regime when hundreds are murdered in cold blood. You go figure them out, cause I have stopped trying.

See what I mean. Did the FNM make these persons murder. Is there some special instructions from the government to commit any of these crime. Did the PLP apologize for the 300 plus murders that took place under there term. Isn't most of these murders drug related or retaliation. What percentage of these murders were actually random incidents. Also can you provide the figures for random murders under the PLP as well as the FNM. Finally,...you know what forget it...... lol

I guess murders are only relevant when the FNM is the Government.

One single "truth" poster hung up by the PLP is one too many, cause it reminds this PM and his failed FNM minister of the natives security that since they were returned to power back in 2007 they have come up with no new workable ways to address the hundreds murdered under their regime’s watch,
And what are they up to now as the days draw near when the natives will fire them, out there repackaging their only solution, that of blaming the families of the murdered.
Whatever one of our national languages they say it in, Bahamian or Creole, the lawlessness resides as much in them as the failed regime as the society they have created, where the rich get richer and the poor fall into greater levels of poverty, as it does in any of the thugs. I am told that even our two daily newspapers have been blocked from being sold at our hotels cause they too don’t want the tourists to see the real murderous face of our Bahamaland steering back at them from the newsstands.
