BAHAMAS TO HOST WORLD RELAY EVENT

The IAAF has said today it plans to launch a World Relays competition in the Bahamas in May 2014.

The IAAF says that the two-day competition will "bring together the world's best athletes," in a schedule that includes the 4x100 and 4x400-meter races as well as the 4x200, 4x800 and 4x1,500 relays.

IAAF President Lamine Diack says "the wonderful athletics competition in London has not only reinforced the appeal of our sport but specifically the popularity of relay races, which the spectators find dramatic and exciting."

The event will be open to all IAAF member countries and have prize money of about $1.4 million.
