Sporting benefit of a national lottery

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Great Britain is now exceeding its medal count of all previous Olympics. According to the Press Reports this is because a large amount earned by the National Lottery is applied towards promoting Sports.

Bahamians take notice!

If this happens here we could no doubt send even a better equipped team to the future Olympics!

Could it be that Great Britain exceeded its medal count because it hosted the Olympics and each host nation is allowed to enter competitors in every category without having to qualify for the event. Maybe it is the same reason China won the 2008 Olympics when it hosted it.

Bahamians,

We have important problems to solve -- crime, education, unemployment etc.

The London Olympics was a wonderful distraction from our national problems. Let's return to reality. As the late Stephen R. Covey wrote, "the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. In other words, "It’s so easy these days to get distracted doing things that will not get the main job done. Fight the urge to do something else that is not as important or a priority. Remembering to keep the main thing the main thing will help us all to focus on our most important goals."
