POLICE sources say the man whose life was taken in the first murder of the year was 38-year-old Godfrey Davis.
Mr Davis, who was to celebrate his 39th birthday on Thursday, was killed just outside his home on St Michael's Road off Prince Charles Drive.
Police believe Mr Davis was attacked by a man who was visiting his home on Sunday.
Initial reports claimed an argument that broke out between the two men resulted in the victim being stabbed to death while his four young children were inside the home.
Police were called to the scene shortly before 11.30pm. The victim was then taken to hospital by ambulance, but he later died.
INVESTIGATORS are still searching for clues in the case of a badly decomposed body found in some bushes off Marshall Road on Monday.
However, police sources say it is thought the remains could be those of an elderly man reported missing some time ago.
POLICE were tipped off about a handgun and a large cache of ammunition stashed on Moore Avenue off Wulff Road on Monday.
When a team of officers responded shortly after 2pm, they discovered the small arsenal hidden beneath a home. No one was taken into custody.
Police are asking anyone with information concerning these cases to contact them immediately by calling 911 or 919.
