NEWLY-appointed Water and Sewerage chairman Bradley Roberts remained tight-lipped on his plans for the corporation yesterday.

When asked about how he intends to approach the job, he would only say the PLP has no plans to privatise the corporation.

Mr Roberts, who was held the position of deputy chairman in the previous PLP administration, said his plans for the WSC have been known for the past five years.

He said he has been very vocal and forthcoming, and the media should “do the research” on what the PLP’s plans for the WSC are, rather than ask him to explain them.

Mr Roberts said: “ It has been no secret, I have sent out many press releases listing what I plan on doing. The press needs to do their research. Read the PLP plan, its in there.”

In the Charter for Governance, the PLP promised to develop a national water policy in conjunction with all national stake holders, implement legal and regulatory reform to assure the proper extraction of ground and potable water and ensure all Bahamian communities have access to piped potable water by 2017.

The PLP also promised to restore the corporation with a focus on customer satisfaction through first class service, and reduce the WSC’s reliance on the central government for funding – assuring sufficient and efficient funding through public-private ventures.

Does he get free water now and his past bill forgiven?

Or is he one of those during the road works that had secret undocumented pipes with no meter going to his house?

Mr. Roberts, sorry Sir, your response to Ms. Brown is unacceptable.

"Mr Roberts said: “ It has been no secret, I have sent out many press releases listing what I plan on doing. The press needs to do their research. Read the PLP plan, its in there.”

Mr. Roberts, are you claiming that the sentences in "The Charter for Governnce" can be called a plan. They are broad objectves that have to be deeloped. Press releases are not a plan. You were a businessman and you know better.

"In the Charter for Governance, the PLP promised to develop a national water policy in conjunction with all national stakeholders, implement legal and regulatory reform to assure the proper extraction of ground and potable water and ensure all Bahamian communities have access to piped potable water by 2017"

If the press were to do research, they would find broad objectives not a plan. Ms. Brown's question is still unanswered.

Mr. Roberts, Sir, "Is there a comprehensive plan for the Department of Water and Sewerage"? Yes or No. If Yes, when will the comprehensive plan be distributed to the public? If no, when will the comprehensive plan be completed?

the charter for goverance was very nice fanciful writeing .long sentences with big words that sound very impressive but, really don,t say anything very concrete ...its sort of like a 7th grader that copies the encyclopida on a topic for his home work ,on the surface very impressive ,wow a charter until 2030 ,but upon reading just fluff ...i found it helpful to fall asleep and after 2 weeks had only gotten to page 40 or so ,,,

It is unbelievable that the chairman of a public corporation who is accountable to the public would advise a member of the press to piece together WSCs plans from press archives and a political manifesto! This merely suggests to me that there is no plan.

This was a very disappointing response from yet another decrepit PLP. However, for some reason I am not surprised.

If WSC is a "PUBLIC" Corporation I don't see why Mr. Roberts is being tight lipped about the plans. Matter of fact, I am led to believe he actually has no plans and that is why he avoided the question. Same old Perry Christie, Same old PLP!
