NEIGHBOURS have criticised police officers who shot a man after a high-speed car chase.
Residents in the family-dominated area were left agitated as there were several children present when police returned fire.
They criticised the police for being ‘unprofessional’ taking part in a ‘gunfight’ in the middle of a residential area.
According to reports, officers on patrol saw a suspicious vehicle in Blue Hill Road and when they attempted to stop the car, the driver refused and sped off.
Officers followed the car to Key West Street where two men, the driver and a passenger, got out of the car and fled on foot.
One man allegedly pulled a gun and fired shots at the officers who fired back leaving him injured.
He was taken to hospital where he remains under police guard - the other man is still on the run.
Supt Don Wilson defended the officers’ actions and warned potential criminals that police would not accept retaliation or resistance.

Thats a job well done by the police. Keep up the good work. Although its scary that gunshots was exchanged in a residential area, look at for what cause it was done. Or perhaps the residents would have been more happy if the police had called off the chase and let the criminals go who probably would have used that same gun to rob, car jack, home invade or rape them. The residents in this case are just unreasonable, but think of this; since you (the residents) are so cautious of harm in the neighbourhood especially for the kids sake, consider that at any point a motorist could suffer some illness or mechanical failure whilst driving through the area. Your same kids at play are now exposed to being mowed down. Danger exists in many forms so lets just thank God that in this case nothing bad happened to no one good.
