EDITOR, The Tribune
JUST a thought: As reality sinks in and we reflect on the effects of the non voters, DNA voters and the "sold out" voters, had in the outcome of the 2012 general election, one can see that with their "help", our country lost a unique opportunity to move forward and out of this third world existance.
In trifling around with our right to vote, it was somehow forgotten by many that we were supposed to choose a government, not a celebrity, to run our Bahamas, and so consequently we lost our most worthy leader. In accordance with our history, a nation of pirates, we traded him in for fools gold. Which left him no other choice but to depart with honour, after having fought for us as if we were a great catch. Mr Ingraham must know in his heart, that he did give his all to our country, even though it didn't seem to matter in the minds of the masses.
As the curtain closes on this "world's stage" and the actors retreat, we are left with a sense of puzzlement. Wondering if perhaps there should have been an alternant ending. Some may go so far as to say "a do over". The fact is we can't. We will have another opportunity to vote in five years, but we will never have another leader like Mr Hubert Alexander Ingraham.
Thank you, Mr Ingraham, for your love of this, our great Bahamaland.
Proud to be Bahamian.

I don't know about "never". To use that word is to write off untold numbers of future Bahamians who will have the responsiblity for governing this country in time to come. Now, perhaps you can say "never" again in your lifetime...

In a democracy a person have the rights to vote for who they want to vote for, so I don't understand most of your editorial other than it is partisan and you voice your opinion and would rather be in a country where others don't have that right.

Agree. PM Ingraham's great legacy speaks for itself. The best. We never know what we had until we no longer have it.

Sure, sure PM Ingraham - did some good and did some bad! He is human like anyone else. Laotzu 680BC said - the sage that does the most good does the most bad - what he did not say…, that is equally true, is - the sage that does the most bad does the most good. However, we know that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely, not only did Ingraham demonstrated that, but so does others too! Arrogance in the land without right is not what politicians or anyone should do either.

Mr. Ingraham FAILED to:
1. Give us secret ballots for voting - ie. remove the ID numbers from the ballots
2. Make an International Airport that has a paging/intercom system that reaches the entire inside of the airport - LOL. That one is very embarrassing.
3. Give women and men equal rights under the Law.
4. Get the Freedom of Information Act that he passed (without an effective date) actually working and useable by the people. It is just as if it never passed. He knew better. He knows how Laws take effect, and how they don't.
5. Finish the airport in his home town of Abaco. The upstairs is not useable, and the control tower is too short to be of any use - that is very strange, really.
6. Stop the sale of our most prized property - Cable Beach - to the communists.
7. Install a radar at Inagua for monitoring sea traffic coming from the south.
8. Improve the conditions at our immigration holding facility so that we don't have these stories of alleged abuse. The conditions should be much better - and the process swifter.
9. Increase the number of courts, judges, and support staff so that cases can be heard in a timely fashion.
10. Make a Constitutional amendment so that either the Senators OR the Governor General are elected - so that we can have a better democracy.
Overall, I would give his performance - while in an office with tremendous power - a grade of 60%. Just because that grade is better than Pindling's - who I would give 40% - does not make him a "great" leader. Pindling lost the most points - in my opinion - by also failing to expand and improve his home island of Andros - which has tremendous potential to help our overall economy and our people.
People did not put Ingraham back in power in 2012 because they know a lot of the 10 points listed above - and they simply wanted better. Even if Christie can't deliver it, they weren't going to let Ingraham them sit in their chairs for another 5 years failing "deliver".
