POWER was off across New Providence as shop owners turned to generators to keep their businesses going this morning.

The current went off around 8.30am and has yet to be restored in parts of Nassau.

Homes, businesses and street lights were affected in widespread outages.

Phones are also off and police have reported their emergency numbers are 'malfunctioning.'
