Woman drowns

FREEPORT - A 61-year-old American tourist drowned on Sunday while vacationing in Grand Bahama with relatives. According to reports, the female visitor from Pennsylvannia arrived by cruise ship around 8am on Sunday.

Asst Supt Loretta Mackey, press liaison officer, confirmed that police are investigating a possible drowning involving a female tourist in waters off West Grand Bahama.

Ms Mackey said police received a report around 12.20pm that a female visitor was snorkelling with relatives when she experienced difficulty breathing.

Assistance was rendered to the victim. She was taken by ambulance to the Rand Memorial Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The identity of the victim is being withheld by police.

The woman came to Freeport on a one-day cruise and was scheduled to return Sunday evening with relatives.
