Govt denies Bahamas Petroleum Company's claim over oil licences

THE government is denying the Bahamas Petroleum Company's claim that its licences to explore for oil have been renewed.

According to the company's website, all five licences were renewed on April 27, but the Ministry of Environment released a statement yesterday denying this.

It said: "On April 25, 2012, BPC submitted payment for the annual rental for its five petroleum licenses: Bain, Cooper, Donaldson, Eneas and Miami.

"Upon receipt of legal advice, this ministry advised BPC that it is presently unable to accept rental fees for the year April 2012-2013 as the government has yet to determine its course of action in connection with licence renewal.

The statement added: "Contrary to the stories appearing in today's dailies, BPC's licences have not been renewed."

Wasn't that long ago when there were those FNM regime's press releases promising the natives that the PM was steaming over the Chinese government’s demand to be issued over 8,000 work permits. Steaming so much that the man himself was flying off to China to read the riot act to the Chinese government that he as the PM would never agree to their outrageous work permit demands. Well, they built an entire village out at Bah Mar and many of the over 8,000 Chinese workers the PM did agree to issue work permits to, done on site living out there. Is this showing the Chinese real spine? Not only are the Chinese workers here working in our Bahamaland but this FNM regime has even insulted the natives with their lauding the Chinese workers for their diligence and ability, claiming there is so much the natives can learn from the Chinese workers? PM I can tell you what the Chinese workers cannot teach the natives and that is anything about enjoying workers rights, kind of the way your FNM regime would like to place the unionized workers of our Bahamaland in, if you are returned to power for another five years.

.......the prefab poured concrete National Stadium designed by Chinese foreigners, built by Chinese foreigners and is a free gift to the Bahamas and quoted by our Prime Minister in the opening ........" gives full expression to the boldness of our (Bahamian?) vision, the breadth of our Bahamian imagination, and the strength of our national character." ............mother never brought us up to claim other peoples work as our own...........
