A QUAKOO Street man was granted $12,000 bail by the Supreme Court yesterday, seven days after being charged in Magistrates Court with rape and causing harm.

Rhyan Pinder, 34, appeared in Supreme Court before Justice Bernard seeking to be granted a bond until his trial is completed before either of the courts.

His attorney Anthony Newbold was successful in getting application and prosecution offered no objection to the bond being granted.

He was given bail on the conditions that he needed two suretors, had to surrender his travel documents, and report to the Quakoo Street police station two days each week before 6pm.

It is claimed that he, on Tuesday, April 24, had sex with a woman who did not give him consent. It is further claimed that he caused her harm during the incident.

During his arraignment before Magistrate Vogt-Evans on April 26, attended by his supporting cousin former MP now attorney Ron Pinder, the Quakoo Street resident pleaded not guilty to causing harm, but was not allowed to answer to the rape charge.

He was not granted bail at the time because the court did not have the power to do so in connection with the rape charge.

Police prosecution indicated that it would have the matter forwarded directly to the Supreme Court for trial through a Voluntary Bill of Indictment.

The Magistrate gave the prosecution a seven-week deadline to produce the bill or she would start the trial on June 15 if a Voluntary Bill of Indictment was not already presented by the Attorney General's office.
