AN Abaco man sentenced to 20 years in prison for the 2009 fatal beating of Adam Evans appears in the Court of Appeal today.
Mario Delancy, 29, intends to appeal the conviction of manslaughter and 20-year sentence he received from Senior Justice Jon Isaacs.
He was convicted in July 2011 of the lesser charge following a murder trial in Supreme Court.
It was alleged by prosecutors that Delancy and others had brutalized Evans on July 19, 2009 at Spring City, Abaco.
The five other men who initially stood trial with Delancy were discharged after prosecutors dropped their case against them.
He maintained his innocence of the matter, however, in the paraphrase of Senior Justice Isaacs, the jury accepted evidence that Delancy was seen running after Adam Evans on the morning in question. They convicted him.
His attorney V Alfred Gray told the judge that he intended to appeal the verdict.
