PLP CHAIRMAN Bradley Roberts has dismissed claims that his party has purchased nearly $750,000 worth of new vehicles for the government's new cabinet.
Explaining that the purchase order for the vehicles had been made some two months ago under the previous FNM administration, Mr Roberts said that the order had nothing to do with Prime Minister Perry Christie's new cabinet.
"Let me also say that maybe there may be a justification for ordering these cars, because it has been brought to my attention that these ministers' cars have apparently been run like they were running BEC's generators.
"They ran them without any maintenance until they stop running.
"Some of these cars are in terrible shape I am told. The same way they operated BEC without carrying out maintenance is the same way they were operating the cars," Mr Roberts said.
Mr Roberts also reminded the public that former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham had also purchased a new car for his office some two months before the May 7 general election.
It is understood that it became necessary for Mr Ingraham to purchase a new car when the American-made prime minister's car that he inherited in 2007 from the Christie administration broke down.
The bill to repair that car made it cheaper to purchase a new car, The Tribune was told.
The Kia that Prime Minister Christie now drives is the car that was purchased for Mr Ingraham earlier this year, and which Mr Christie inherited on becoming prime minister on May 7.

No worry Comrade Brad, Hubert got he own Jeep. Didn't you hear that over the weekend the security man at their mini-get-together, cause you rally stretching it by calling it a party convention with less than 150 members in attendance , gave Hubert hell for parking his little Jeep in a no parking spot and made him move his vehicle?

Comrades still at the end of the day whether you like Comrade Brad telling it like it is, and while this is foreign talk to you red shirts, but once ya done complain, whining and be griping about everything PLP, ya still only got 8 seats in the House and he former law partner got 30 sitting PLP MP’s with one more seat soon coming from Abaco? Might I encourage you to get used to Comrade Brad or exercise your right to do what Sir Stafford did when faced with the same political situation, he hightailed it for the Cayman Islands. Or, as in the case of some of you some of you red shirts ya would feel more at home in Haiti?

See this is what gets me with the PLP yah know. Why is Bradley responding to this? As a citizen of this country I want to know why the vehicles were kept in such poor condition? Also if and when the new vehicles were ordered before the general election. I also wonder if we are purchasing the right type of vehicle for these ministers? These gas guzzling Fords we buy are really too old fashion. How about some slick fuel efficient cars?
I ask the current government to table the documents showing the purchase order of the vehicles before the election. This is where the PLP falls down. We allow the media to write nonsense and don't retaliate with clear evidence to shut them down. Please give us the evidence. But what I don't get is how these cars get so run down. Don't they get regularly serviced? I would have assumed that all cabinet minister vehicles are serviced and maintained on a schedule. It just goes to show how we Bahamians don't know how to keep nothing. At a tough time like this $750,000 is a lot of money to spend on Cabinet vehicles. I can't see how the former government ordered these vehicles knowing the tight financial spot the country is in.

Bril i agree with you. This has been the problem with the media recently. They print whatever comes of these persons mouths without ever getting or requesting evidence to substantiate their claims or even follow up with the persons involved to get both sides of the story before they print. (Usually that person could not be contacted up to press time). A responsible media should seek the facts and print the truth at all cost and not settle for conjecture and insinuations. This is not journalism, this is propaganda presented by a lazy press.

You miraculously unmuted red shirts never once complained about the lies the mainstream two dailies were helping Hubert to dish out like water, before and during Decision 2102. Why the big mouths now? And, whoever before believethed it that the days of instant miracles were no more, they back in full red shorts color, cause they been freed from the claws of Hubert.
