FREEPORT – Grand Bahama Airport officials have reopened the domestic terminal for business.
The facility was temporarily closed for repairs as a result of a flood damage during Hurricane Sandy.
The Grand Bahama Airport Company (GBAC) said repairs have been completed and the facility has now resumed regular operation hours of 6am to 10pm.
On October 29, flights resumed at the Grand Bahama International Airport.
The international terminal facilities suffered no damage, but the domestic terminal was temporarily closed for repairs.
Domestic flights instead departed from the Western Air Terminal. Operation hours were from 6am to 6pm.
The GBAC expected repairs to the Domestic Terminal to be completed by today.
“All of the airlines that ordinarily utilize this facility have resumed normal operations from this facility. In addition, the food outlets and car rental companies are back in full swing in familiar surroundings,” the company said in a press statement.
“Cargo operations are back to pre-hurricane capacity. The evidence of the hurricane’s visit is very hard to detect in and outside the facility. Runways lights are also up and running.”
GBAC thanked the public for their patience and support and commended the employees and workers who have worked tirelessly to return the facilities to full operation in a relatively short period.
