Prime Minister Perry Christie delivered an address at the National Women’s Month church service, Sunday, at the historic Bethel Baptist Church.
He praised the women who led the movement for the enfranchisement of women in the Bahamas and said their work had “opened a door which can never be shut”. He said the country needed to continue the work of lifting up its women.
National Women’s Month will focus on the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of women’s suffrage. On November 26, 1962, Bahamian women voted for the first time. The church serviced was the first of a series of events scheduled to celebrate “the emergence and ascendancy of women” in the Bahamas, said Mr Christie.

It is absolutely right that we need to design campaigns and programs to empower women in the country. Women have the potential to achieve bigger things in life. Work at home moms too have to maintain a delicate balance while carrying out two different kind of responsibilities.
