Urban Renewal inspection after hurricane

POLICE officers, Ministry of Works and Urban Development officials and representatives of the Department of Social Services and Environmental Health led a fact finding mission in Adelaide Village in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

The field visit was a joint partnership between Urban Renewal and local community activist and director of operations for Save our Little Darlings (SOLD), Christine Stubbs.

The community walkabout assessed the social and environmental concerns of residents, and allowed officials a chance to provide immediate help to those in need.

Officers along with the team canvassed the entire Adelaide community and identified and documented a number of concerns – most notably food shortages, minor home damage, derelict vehicles, garbage accumulation, contaminated wells and overflowing septic tanks.

Officers also took the opportunity to encourage residents to continue to forge neighbourly relations with each other and to join hands with Urban Renewal and other social stakeholders to improve their community.
