STAFF of CIBC FirstCaribbean Bahamas and their friends and family braved the rainy weather to raise money for the fight against cancer.

In a unified walk/run with other CIBC FirstCaribbean staff across the region, and staff and supporters of CIBC’s Annual Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Run for the Cure, they help raise $30 million.

Managing director Trevor Torzsas, who walked along with his family, addressed walkers in the Bahamas, saying: “At CIBC FirstCaribbean, we are pleased to walk – even in inclement weather – to demonstrate that we have joined the fight against cancer, a disease that has touched and continues to touch so many of our lives.

“Your joining us here this morning is phenomenal. You and other participants from 18 countries are a part of an organization-wide commitment to work toward a world free of cancer.”

In the Bahamas, walkers began at Goodman’s Bay Corporate Centre and proceeded along the new Cable Beach strip to the Cable Beach Post Office, then back to Goodman’s Bay.

In total, more 170,000 people took part across the 17 countries and territories in which CIBC FirstCaribbean and CIBC Canada operate.

The bank said plans are afoot for a bigger and better event in 2013.
