SANDALS is primed to expand its high-end boutique resort on Fowl Cay in the Exumas, its chief executive describing the property’s performance to-date as “really strong”.
In a recent interview with this newspaper, Adam Stewart said: “Fowl Cay is just about to undergo an expansion. We’re going to be building four more villas. There are six there now. We’re literally doubling the size of the place; we love it.
“Fowl Cay is one of those projects that started out a little rocky. It’s doing fantastic now. It’s the number one hotel in its category on TripAdvisor. It’s doing really strong. We’re employing more people and giving more people vacations of their lives.
“It’s what happens. You start off, you may lose money for a little while and eventually you will get there. Now that it’s making money and doing well, we’re spending more money expanding it than it’s ever made. We believe in it. We think in five years we would have made the right decisions now.”
The Fowl Cay Resort, which sits on a private 50-acre retreat in the Exumas chain, boasts a casual vacation experience with all the quality amenities of a full-service resort.
In an interview with Tribune Business earlier this year, Sandals Resorts International chairman, Gordon “Butch” Stewart, said the company had invested up to $23 million in the property to-date.
