EDITOR, The Tribune.
The PLP who made it their tag line to call Hubert Ingraham a dictator have produced a Divine Right Prime Minister in Perry G Christie.
This man who prefaces virtually every statement by reminding us that he is Prime Minister has now taken to telling the people of The Bahamas that he is Prime Minister because God made him so. He wants the Bahamian people to believe that his becoming Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas had nothing to do with his being elected Leader of his Party by a PLP National Council stuffed with aged Stalwart Councillors appointed by him for exactly that purpose – apparently God did that.
He also wants us to believe that his Party won the majority of the seats in the House of Assembly on May 7th, though not the popular vote, not because of the Bahamian voting public, but through the hand of God. And he wants us to believe that the PLP winning the general election had nothing to do with PLP vote-buying scams and promises of favours to PLP insiders and other special interest groups. Now in office the Prime Minister also wants us to believe that his government’s firing government employees who don’t support his party, threatening others with potential loss of jobs, intimidating civil servants and promising favours to those who support him and his party, is also the work of God.
Mr Christie would be wise to rethink his personal political behaviour and that of his government because a good and loving God finds their behaviour most disgraceful and dishonourable and certainly undemocratic. It is not the behaviour that good Christians can support or excuse.
