A 40-year-old man of Nassau Village became the country’s latest murder victim when he was pursued and attacked by a group of men who were involved in an argument with another man on Sunday morning.
Reports reaching The Tribune indicate that the victim, whose identity was confirmed by police up to press time, was at a business establishment on Soldier Road shortly before 1am when the argument occurred.
The Nassau Village man reportedly ran to another business on the main thoroughfare and was pursued by a group of men and attacked.
He received head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. This latest homicide follows a little more than 48 hours after a 76-year-old grandmother was shot to death in a hail of bullets inside her bedroom.
Initial police reports said that at around 8.53pm on Thursday authorities were alerted by a caller to the sound of multiple shots in a residence at Eneas Street, between Poinciana Drive and Meadow Street.
The caller, who said she was the victim’s granddaughter, told police that she believed Ms Smith had been shot.
Police said when they arrived at the scene they found Ms Smith lying on her side unresponsive with gunshot wounds to her head and neck.
In other crime news, police arrested a suspect they want to question in connection with an attempted murder, nearly two hours after the country’s latest homicide early Sunday morning.
The incident reportedly occurred around 2 am. Initial reports indicate that the victim was attending a party at Lazaretta Road off Carmichael Road when he got into an argument with a man he knew who subsequently “chopped” him.
A 29-year-old man of Carmichael Road is detained in hospital in serious condition after being “chopped” in his head.
Police are also requesting the public’s help in locating two men responsible for a shooting incident that has left a 37-year- old man of Pinewood Gardens in hospital.
The incident reportedly occurred around 7 pm on Saturday.
Early reports note that the victim was sitting outside his Bluebonnet Drive home with a woman, when they were approached by the occupants of a red Honda vehicle.
It is reported that one of the men got out of the car and approached the victim. An exchange of words followed.
There was a struggle between the two men. The 37-year-old man was shot several times in his body.
He was taken to hospital in a private vehicle where he is detained in critical condition.
The woman was not harmed during the incident.
Police are investigating and appealing to members of the public who might have information on this or other incidents to contact them at 919, 322-3333/4, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991, 502-9910 or Crimestoppers at 328-TIPS.
