'King' Eric secures sponsorship for new boat

‘KING’ Eric Gibson has secured corporate sponsorship for a new ‘A’ Class boat for the upcoming Grand Bahama Regatta at Taino Beach.

The ‘Palm Cay Princess’ will set sail and compete in her first race at the Grand Bahama Regatta September 27-30.

Richard Browning, chief executive officer of Palm Cay, the residential marina development on Yamacraw Road, has said that he supports the Bahamas’ island regattas and ocean sporting events.

Earlier this year, Palm Cay sponsored and introduced the Palm Cay Sir Durward Knowles Cup, the only one to bear Sir Durward’s name.

It is a regatta circuit floating trophy which made its first appearance at the February St Valentine’s Day Regatta in Nassau.

And in August, Palm Cay sponsored the Acklins Regatta.

‘King’ Eric will captain the ‘Palm Cay Princess’ in her maiden race and states he will win.

“I aim to win, I will win - the ‘Palm Cay Princess’ can take on all comers,” he said. “I want to sail against and beat Peter Nygard’s boat, he said he may sponsor the ‘Good News.’ I can beat her in the ‘Palm Cay Princess.’”

King’ Eric said he is encouraged and hopeful for the future of sports sailing by the corporate sponsorship of Palm Cay and Nygard Cay of the Grand Bahama Regatta, but that further sponsorship is needed.

“We’re still looking for sponsors for the sloops in all classes,” he said. “Several boats have already registered in the ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ classes, but we’re hoping for more.”

I think that this sponsorship is a waste of money. What did happen with his old boat? Did he get bored of it? At least he should donate the old boat to a charity event and after he closes this deal, he will buy a new boat.
