FREEPORT – Chinese Ambassador Hu Shan was in Grand Bahama on Tuesday for a number of speaking engagements.

His first stop was the Beacon School on Forbisher Drive. The institution, which caters to mentally challenged students, received several computers as a donation from the ambassador.

Ambassador Hu then paid a courtesy call on Minister for Grand Bahama Dr Michael Darville at the Office of the Prime Minister.

He also spoke to businesspersons at the Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce’s monthly lunch meeting at the Ruby Swiss Restaurant.

With the aid of a translator, the Ambassador explained that there is great potential for co-operation between China and the Bahamas in the area of tourism.

He said one of his duties is to get Chinese tourists to visit the Bahamas.

However, he noted that Chinese citizens have experienced difficulty obtaining visas to visit the Bahamas.

“We need to create a good condition for (Chinese) tourists, he said.
