The Battle of the hair is on. Organisers of the inaugural Top Barber/Top Stylist 242 are vetting 32 applications for the competition. Only 20 contestants will qualify for the big showdown.

Best Review Bahamas and Home Grown Media have joined forces to announce the Best of the Best in hair styling and grooming. Top Barber/Top Stylist 242 is endorsed by The Bahamian Cosmetology and Barber Association.

During the hair battle and expo, Bahamians will see their favourite barbers and hair stylists vie for the master title. The event will also include a nail competition category and outrageous hair contest for participating audience members. The overall judging criteria for the various competitions will be based on originality, technical execution of styles, creativity and overall presentation.

The competition is scheduled to take place at the British Colonial Hilton, October 28.

“The event is to provide a platform for persons in the areas of barbering, hair styling and those in the beauty supply industry to enhance their skills and widen their brand exposure through the competition. It is also to provide an educational platform for students interested in the profession and those that wish to improve their skills in hair care. There will be many opportunities for vendors and guests to increase their clientele through networking opportunities, as they will be a part of a very entertaining and engaging forum that draws the most innovative group of talents in the Bahamas in one room,” said Project Coordinator Anthony Smith.

There will be booths set up by wholesalers and beauty supply companies selling hair and beauty products.

Mr Smith, there are several professionals that are on the panel of judges that will share their expertise. “There will be lots of valuable information offered during the seminars and workshops that will be ongoing throughout the all day expo. We have a session on ‘How to market and sell your Product/s and Services’; selling tips and ideas for all of our patrons, whether they are in the beauty industry or simply an everyday consumer.”

Winners from the Top Barber/Top Stylist 242 competition will go on to participate in the Image Expo in Houston, Texas next year.

The deadline for entry for individuals interested in competing in Top Barber/Top Stylist 242 is September 30.
