POLICE are warning drivers to be “extra careful” when driving on Shirley Street late at night or early in the morning, saying several cars were attacked with cement bricks over the weekend.
The warning came after at least half a dozen cars had blocks thrown into their windshields between Friday and Saturday while they driving on Shirley Street between Harbour Bay and Kemp Road.
Officer in Charge of the Northeastern Division Superintendent Theopholis Cunningham said while police have launched an investigation, here is no need for public panic.
“There is no need to be alarmed, we believe the incidents were isolated and is not a trend that we should continue to see. We are following significant leads and we hope we can bring this matter to a close very very soon,” he said.
“These incidents caused damage to at least six vehicles – we do believe it is the same person. We do not think that robbery was the motive but at this point in this investigation, I cannot give out any further details.”
The attacks all took place between 1am and 5am. No one was seriously hurt, however several of the victims were shaken up, police said.
According to reports, the bricks were thrown into the driver’s side of the windshield in an attempt to stop the vehicle. Pictures flooded social media networks warning drivers to be vigilant when travelling in that area.
There were also reports of gunshots being heard around the same time the bricks were thrown.
Active investigations are continuing.

Nice of the cops to warn us about traveling on Shirley Street late at night and early morning but would it not be more effective for one or two of them to leave the station and stake out this area. ? You never see these guys anymore unless its a real safe place to be. ( Like the station with a/c and TV )
