EDITOR, The Tribune.
Today’s Tribune featured an article about the extensive reclamation of the seabed at Simms Point, Lyford Cay, the home of fashion designer Peter Nygard.
The article outlined that Nygard claims his property doubled in size through natural means.
This is not correct.
For the past twenty years, Nygard has been building concrete structures into the sea, effectively reclaiming the seabed for private purposes, and destroying the Bahamian coastline.
Nygard’s concrete structures now extend into the sea on both sides of Simms Point, and recently they were extended further into Clifton Bay.
Nygard also cut into the coast at Simms Point for a private marina.
It has been reported that the government ordered Nygard to cease and desist, yet the construction continues.
To my way of thinking, Nygard’s behaviour as a guest in The Bahamas is shocking, and the Prime Minister has no right to condone this destruction by leasing the seabed to him.
The government is obliged to take immediate steps to force Nygard to remove all of the concrete structures from the seabed, and restore Simms Point to its natural coastline.

Who in the hell does this man think he is!?!? He thknks because he has money he can disrespect us so blatantly? Make him take every single thing he has built and fine him millions for blatantly disprespecting our laws. Nygard is the perfect example of the types of folks we do not need in this in country.

more of you Bahamians need to realize this. sand pumps running 16hrs a day pumping your beautiful sand, destroying your sea grass, coral, to increase the size of HIS land, (not yours) and you let this man do this. Its not a feud between 2 rich guys, its one rich guy doing whatever he wants and it looks like no one in Bahamas can stop him...look at all the evidence, the pictures, the facts are right in front of you...
