A BAHAMIAN artist won a competition by coming up with a “superhero” whose bottom is her most powerful weapon and who can hide objects in her lacefront.

Giovanna Swaby won an all-expenses paid trip for four to Walt Disney World courtesy of Cable Bahamas and HBO after she came up with “Pink Mystic”.

Giovanna is one of the 2013 Junior Residency Prize winners of Popopstudios, the independent art studio and gallery for alternative Bahamian visual culture.

HBO and Cable Bahamas joined forces in “The Next Avenger” summer promotion around the premiere of “The Avengers” movie on HBO.

Contestants created their own superhero and showed off their creativity with a photo and/or video of themselves demonstrating their “superhero skills”.

Giovanna proved to be the best - and most popular - among the finalists in the seven week long competition, receiving over 2,000 votes to win.

Giovanna created a two-minute video and submitted photos of herself as The Next Avenger, “Pink Mystic”.

“Pink Mystic has increased speed and agility,” she wrote.

“Her lacefront has the ability to store and conceal objects. Pink Mystic’s gluteus maximus is her most powerful weapon, it has the ability to stun her opponents for minutes. Her strength can be replenished by dance hall music.”

Cable Bahamas’ nearly 20,000 Facebook fans responded in the final days of voting, pushing “Pink Mystic” past all other contenders.

Cable Bahamas’ REVTV Product Manager Teneile Simmons said: “Pink Mystic was such a great idea and Ms Swaby went the extra mile in her submission with the creation of a two-minute video showing why she should be chosen as the next Avenger - and it worked!”
