New Bahamas ambassadors to U.S. and U.N.

STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

“The Ministry wishes to announce that on the advice of the Prime Minister, Dr. Eugene Newry has been appointed Ambassador to the United States with immediate effect. He is expected to present his credentials shortly.

“On 3rd May 2013, Ambassador Elliston Rahming, then Ambassador designate to the United States, withdrew his name from consideration as Ambassador to the United States and asked to be reassigned. Dr. Newry agreed to accept the new post and his name was advanced. We made no announcement on either development until agreement had been received from the United States Government. This was received yesterday.

“Dr. Rahming is to become the Ambassador to the United Nations and will continue as the Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States.

“The two Ambassadors will be introduced to their respective staffs on Monday 27th August and Tuesday 28th August.

“The Minister of Foreign Affairs Fred Mitchell welcomed the appointments and said he is looking forward to working with them.”

What business is it of others why the appointment was ordered withdrawn by the PM? All diplomatic appointments are political. so what? Didn't President Obama recall the US's last Ambassador to Bahamaland? Did anyone even bother asking why she is no longer an Ambassador to Bahamaland? Look how much time has passed, yet no new US Ambassador has been appointed to Bahamaland? Go bother Obama why he nix it and leave our government to be.

Where does it say that the appoinment was ordered withdrawn by the PM ... or do you know something we don't?

The fact is that is looks bad on us as a country to have selected someone to be ambassador and to have that person rejected by the receiving country. It is obvious we did not do our homework; now we are trying to make it look pretty.

He is based at the Miami office. First found out about this when I saw some photos on Facebook that a friend had posted. Showed the 40th Bahamas independence church service there in Miami and she had posted a photo of herself with Mr. Treco. This was in early July before the info was released here in Nassau.
