POLICE are investigating a woman’s allegation that she was attacked and raped during a power outage by an acquaintance she had been casually talking with just before the lights went out.
The incident happened around midnight in Elizabeth Estates.
The Tribune understands the 27-year-old victim was in the park with a man she knew from the neighbourhood when there was a power outage.
According to sources close to the matter, the suspect then became very aggressive and starting touching her and asking her for sex, when she refused his advances he punched her several times in the face and dragged her onto a nearby bleacher at the park. He then held her down, removed her clothing and raped her.
The victim began screaming “at the top of her lungs,” which attracted the attention of nearby residents. The suspect fled the area when he saw people starting to approach them.
The victim was taken to the Elizabeth Estates Police Station and then to the hospital. Investigations are continuing.
Police are also investigating the alleged Paradise Island rape of a 20-year-old woman visitor. A 26-year-old American man is in custody assisting police.
According to reports the woman was swimming in a pool at Paradise Island when she was sexually assaulted by the suspect.
Sources say the woman told to police she met the man, who was staying at the same hotel. She said she had consumed several drinks until she was drunk. It was then, she said, that the man “took advantage of her drunken state” by have sex with her on the pool deck.
Police arrested the man a short time later, investigations are continuing.
Calls to the hotel were not returned up to press time.

I'm a MAN and I've been both "molested" (quotation marks due to the fact that[,][1] even though I was between the ages of 6 and 11, I kinda liked it and it didn't bother me) and raped (no quotation marks because I was actually drugged and raped in Barcelona when I was 19)[.][2] I think it is unsettlingly common and I've heard many a friend recount incidences of this sort. It took me a solid 4 years to recover from the Barcelona incident. I spent 3 of those years convinced I had HIV and couldn't have sex with anyone throughout that time. That said, I now love sex and I'm completely over the whole stupid thing. For those of you (female or otherwise) who have had this experience - hang in there. You DO get over it. Really. ;)
