‘Why did acting PM not have PM’s security detail?’

FNM Deputy Leader Loretta Butler Turner questioned yesterday why Acting Prime Minister Phillip “Brave” Davis was not given the same security detail as Prime Minister Perry Christie.

Speaking with The Tribune, Mrs Butler Turner said she, along with the entire nation, were shocked to learn that Mr and Mrs Davis were accosted in their own home.

She said it brings into question why Mr Davis, who is serving as Prime Minster while Mr Christie is out the country, did not have the “large security” that comes along with that office.

“We are all concerned, the entire nation, about the level of crime in this country, but when you see a person in his position, the Head of State, being robbed it suggests a breach of security. It takes you back to what he said when his aide was accosted a few months back when his aide was attacked ‘no one is safe’,” she said.

“Why was he not afforded the large security regime that the Prime Minister has? I have an issue with this. Why was the security detail not in place? Reports are that someone was there, but it was a chauffeur and he was gun butted. Mr Davis should have had the full government detail.”

In a statement FNM Leader Dr Hubert Minnis said he hopes the police will release all the details on this incident.

“All of the facts about today’s (Monday’s) events are not yet known. Consequently, it will not be prudent for us to speculate on the crime and the likely perpetrators until most or all of the facts are known.

“Even after listening to the preliminary press reports from the briefing by the Commissioner of Police, there are dozens of unanswered questions about why and how these shocking events occurred or were permitted to occur. I fully expect that in the coming hours and days the Minister of National Security and the Commissioner of Police will provide me—and the members of the general public—with a full and detailed report of all the relevant details of the attack on Mr. Davis’s home. The people’s right to know must be respected. An attack on the Acting Prime Minister is something that I am confident none of them will take lightly. I further expect that leaders of the national security team will understand the strong desire on the part of the public to be informed about all the details of what transpired.”

Both Dr Minnis and Mrs Butler Turner said their thoughts and prayers are with the Acting Prime Minster, his wife, driver and their families in the aftermath of this most shocking and unsettling crime.

Mrs Butler Turner said she, along with the entire nation were shocked to learn that "Mr" and Mrs Davis were "accosted" in their own home. Can't you bring yourself to utter the words "Acting Prime Minister? Is your definition of "accosted" that the APM was approach by three armed thugs and spoken to, with a request to turn over his loot?

It had to be someone with fore knowledge of the setup and knew that they could get away with it. It would not have happened if they knew that there would be an overwhelming chance of dying by security gunfire.

We see it Time and Time again, this country and its government(s) do not know what they are doing. They wait until things get out of hand to say 'Oh we need to go fix this and implement that'. The focus is not on us. They rather make a bed of roses for the foreigner to sell/auction off our lands, dreams, and hopes to investors that come here and make 'modern day slaves' out of the native people. These same foreigners come here to work and make money in paradise, whilst the people themselves have no encouragementt from the government in the form of education grants, business ownership etc. The police treat us like animals, almost as if we have no rights. The new and improved interest of the native is not to make something better of their lifes and assests, but to now take what they want, how they want because ultimately the government's concern wasnt with them in the first place. We have gone from a mentality to work together to a mentality of a pirate in the sense that we must now take from the rich because the rich never really deserved in the first place.

Perhaps she can give exact dates when Ingraham was out of the country and his DPM was given the PM's security detail? I'm sure the same thing happened back then.

What it has to do with them - is she is saying that the PM's security detail should have been left for the PM. She was a minister under Ingraham - and so she should be able to comment as to whether Ingraham ever had the policy of leaving his detail with his DPM while he was away. I would be that he did NOT. The opposition (of either party) is always good at saying what should be done - but they never do it while they are in power.

For example, the PLP was upset when Hannah-Martin was thrown out of the House for speaking out of turn - but like Ingraham said those were the Rules that he found in place. He did not change them, and now that PLP is back in power they have not changed them either. They like being able to throw the opposition out, and so does the FNM. Neither wants democracy - only power.

So in this Butler is just talking nonsense because Ingraham did not leave his detail for the DPM and when she becomes Prime Minister in 2017 she will not leave it either.

The DPM is 2nd in command, and in this situation left 1st in command.. He could order whatever security detail he wants because he is the DPM.. At issue is whether despite previous comments by the DPM about Nobody is safe and what happened to his body guard, it sames he never followed his own advice and secured his safety and that of his family.. I am of the belief these guys think it would never happen to them.. The body guard shooting he just blew that off, hey i was out the country plus he had my vehicle around those savages he probably thought.. They are delusional about the crime problem because nobody is robbing them until now.. Wake up, its time to get real about crime..

Sigh..Well they have rectified it. I understand that the "entire police force" is now escorting Mr Davis. 10 cars strong. This is a complete comedy show. I wonder who he thinks is after him...10 cars???? hmmmm....
