A well-known business woman is fighting for her life in hospital after being shot multiple times and robbed of a sum on money Monday night.

It happened around 8:50pm in Pastel Gardens.

Police say Ms Larona Gibson, owner of two stores, pulled into the driveway of her home, with her two sons, when two men, who were waiting in a park across the street, opened fire on them.

The boys ran to the back of the yard, leaving their mother in the car as the men continued their attack. When the boys returned to the car, a few minutes later, they found that their mother had been shot several times. It is understood that she was shot twice in the stomach, once in the thigh and once in the leg.

The boys also realized that her bag, which contained money, was missing.

Taken to hospital by ambulance, she is listed in serious condition.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact police at 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.

Meanwhile police are asking business persons to always be vigilant of their surroundings and always have a police escort when making large cash deposits. They are also asking business persons to contact the police if they think they are being followed or turn into the nearest police station or business place.

Police Superintendent Stephen Dean is reminding persons to be alert this festive season, not to let down their guard and always take note of their surroundings.

And the DPM tries to suggest to us that the crime situation is improving! Does he think the Bahamian public are completely dim witted? He is treating us with contempt. Everyone and their Grammy knows that the situation is deteriorating. Reclassification of crime stats fools no-one and shame on the Commissioner of Police for going along with the whole charade. Deepest sympathies go to this poor lady and her family. Let's pray that she recovers.

What is happening in our society today is a direct reflection of who we have become as a people. We are reaping what we've sewn! Corruption, extortion, wickedness in high places, spiritual immorality, lack of regard for one another...weaping, moaning, and gnashing of teeth! The blood of the innocent runs throughout the street! May God have mercy upon this Bahamaland...
