Permanent Secretary's car stripped of tyres

THESE photos show the official government vehicle of Tourism Permanent Secretary Harrison Thompson, which was stripped of its tyres and left on blocks over the weekend.

A source who sent the photos to The Tribune said the car was plundered outside Mr Thompson’s home in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He asked why the vehicle of a top civil servant has been allowed to continue languishing on blocks for four days.

And the source lamented the fact that robbers no longer think twice about targeting an official vehicle.

“I remember when no one would even consider messing with a car with red plates,” he said.

Last night, police confirmed that a car assigned to Mr Thompson had been reported stripped.

His minister, Obie Wilchcombe, was in Cabinet yesterday and did not return messages before press time.

That is hilarious. Maybe next time the PLP will think twice before they send out stupid messages. Like we ready on day one. These dreads couldn't be ready if we gave all the day ones there are!

Boy if ya have some nice looking factory rims on your car, I suggest getting security lugs. These fellas aint playing on this road, they would take anything. The Bahamas better wake up and focus on this unemployment dilemma. You cant just offer jobs that require years of experience if most of your population is looking to build experience. I swear the jobs that are available are only catering to those that already have good jobs but are looking for better ones. If one was to go and get certifications, degrees etc. They would still be out of a job because they have no experience. How is your people suppose to rise when you don't even give them a chance? Thats something that the labor board needs to recognize. There is no 'equal opportunity' here that is why and how the foreigners come in to invest and take jobs from the people who work hard to earn it yet the government looks at this as business tourism. They are literally taking food from the peoples mouths, and this is one of the many forms of retaliation that the people are resorting to, I dont even want imagine the desperation after VAT is implemented. I swear ya better not even get your hopes up for Bahamar because all those jobs want 3-10 or more years experience as well. I suggest all unfortunate Bahamians out there who are working hard and being put on the back burner, to try and get close with persons who are a high up in a successful businesses, because seems like that is the only way for you to get a job, if you know someone.

Unemployment is not directly linked to foreign jobs in town. The people need proper education first and foremost and Bahamian kids are not even getting the basics at primary or high school level. Class sizes are HUGE, parents have no interest in their kids' education and kids are graduating with barely the knowledge of reading and writing.
With these limited skills, we should be grateful for even entry level positions for our kids, much less big time jobs. Remember, big time jobs require big time work for the most part, and we can't skip the steps in between. The world is changing, most places require at least university degrees before employment.

The government likes to keep the public in the dark; keeping us ignorant prevents us from critically thinking on our own and making decisions based on reason instead of how much money or free food I could get from the government. We have to change that mentality before we can ever acquire the big time jobs. If the appropriate prerequisites are met, then yes, I agree, jobs should be offered to Bahamians. But, I do feel there are many of us out there who lack the basic skills and it starts at home and finishes in the classroom. With those two areas both on very shaky grounds, it's impossible to expect Bahamians to be in the forefront of high-ranking jobs at this day and time. Yes , I believe we can get there, but the moral fabric of our society must first be changed in order for us to get there.

Y'all joke, but this is scary.

With this and the DPM break in, the criminal underclass is basically making a clear statement - they control the Bahamas, not us, not the police, not the government.

They do.

And they will do as they please, to whom they please.

Welcome to the end of the nation.

The criminals ARE the police and government. Before anyone jumps on me about generalizing, let me say this: I know there are good cops, good civil servants and good-hearted moral citizens in this country, BUT there is also a culture of greed, tiefin, lying and whateva- i- could -get -i -will . That being said, there is no way the crime will ever be reduced if we continue with the high levels of corruption throughout this government and town. The innocent must suffer for the guilty- sad but true. These ministers cannot enforce the law because all the dirty laundry will be aired. Once your hands aren't clean and you start punishing others, your deeds come out. If the deeds are good, you have nothing to worry about but if your deeds are bad ones.............The town is small, everyone knows everyone and I could get off scott free because my brother's aunnie's cousin is so and so. Until we stop that foolishness, we will NEVER be rid of crime.

Ahah! Exactly. (no need to jump on you). Corruption in govt is what going us so far down this slippery road so quickly. If our ministers weren't so greedy and "all for me" in the 70's and 80's we wouldn't be in this pit we are today.

You've hit the nail on the head, they all know what's going on, everyone knew what was happening at Housing, everyone knew who was beating up their girlfriend, everyone knew the shady dealings of the webshops, everyone knew Lamb was *on the lamb*...but along their merry way they went...

Think about it, which person stealing wheels, especially of a government vehicle would carefully place new building blocks under the car. However I sure will play that plate number lol. Good hoax.

Could be that his rank allows him to use the car as a private vehicle. But it would be good if even under those scenarios persons conscientiously curtailed usage to govt business only, save on gas, maintenance and hopefully increase the life of the vehicle. (applied to all vehicles not just this in question)

Comrades I realize no crime should be treated as a funny act but this invites all of us to rekindle our unique Bahamalander's sense of humour. How can you not laugh at seeing a photo of the permanent secretary's government car left sitting high on concrete blocks. Besides the stealing of car tires and wheels does not rank up there with the US State Department issuing a travel alert bulletin to Santa Clause and his Reindeers. Santa is American, right?
