POLICE are investigating a fire that destroyed a restaurant on West Bay Street around 4.30am yesterday.

Fire Chief Walter Evans said it took four fire engines and dozens of firemen to put out the blaze that gutted Our Place Restaurant and Bar.

“When we got the call we sent firefighters immediately.

“When they arrived on the scene, they met the single storey structure completely engulfed in flames.

“The initial truck called for additional help and three other trucks were dispatched,” he said.

“There was a two storey residential building that was being threatened by the flames, so the firefighters turned their attention to protecting that building, which had to be hosed down.

“We were successful in our efforts and the building was not affected.”

Superintendent Evans said the cause of the fire was still unknown. No one was hurt in the blaze.

Investigations continue.
