PRE-SEASON training and workouts continue this and each Saturday throughout February between 1:090 pm ad 3:00 pm as the Legacy Baseball/Softball Association finalises teams for its upcoming girls softball and boys baseball seasons which opens on March 2nd, 2013 at the YMCA.
This year, Legacy will be sending two All-Star teams to mini-tournament being setup by the Bahamas Baseball Federation in Abaco and South Eleuthera, and would like to expose the best of its players to these competitions, revealed Eugene Thompson, Legacy President.
“We have enjoyed much success in the B.B.F. Nationals, and see participating in these mini-tournaments as a way to continue our growth and showing in these divisions at this year’s nationals.”
The Junior Baseball League of Rock Sound will be the host the BBF’s Mini Tournament, 11/12 Division Challenge, April 19th to 21st, 2013 in Rock Sound, Eleuthera, and the All-Abaco Baseball League will host the 9-10 Division Challenge, May 17th thru 19th 2013
“Registration of players continues each Saturday, and Coaches, with the assistance of the Administrators, are busy formalising teams for each division, from Tee-ball to the seniors, 16-18,” said Thompson.
“We’re making a concerted effort to contact all players, those from the 2012 and those interested in playing the game for the first time and encouraging them to come out.
“We’re keenly interested returning those players from last year or earlier whom we have not seen as yet, and urge their parents to please come out and register them to ensure a spot on a team.”
Thompson also took the time to express Legacy’s congratulations to two of its stalwart players who received pre-season recognition recently in the United States.
“Desmond Russell and Jervis ‘Champ’ Stuart were recognised by college baseball with pre-season All-American Honors in their respective conferences. Grand Bahamian – Desmond Russell was named College Sports Madness ALL-SWAC & Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American’ and was the 2012 BBF College Pitcher of Year – Honor received June 2012, and is a member of the Bahamas national team. He is a Utility Player.
Jervis ‘Champ’ Stuart of Bimini, was named the Pre-season All-S.A.C. First Team Outfielder. He began with his career with Legacy, and in 2012 ‘Champ’ was named the 2012 B.B.F. College Player of Year and the 2012 BBF MVP in the Senior Challenge – Freeport vs. New Providence.
Also playing with Desmond on the Jackson State Tigers is Aneko Knowles another fixture on the Bahamas National Team and Legacy’s National championship Teams.
These three players have helped Legacy to win 10 championships as they progressed in their divisions in the B.B.F. Nationals.
“As we congratulate these Legacy players, we remind those still in the Legacy programme that these standout athletes were once where they are now and can serve as their inspiration to succeed in the sport of baseball,” said Thompson.
