PM 'delighted' with appointment

REVEREND Father James Moultrie, Anglican priest and the Bahamas' former Ambassador to the United Nations, has been appointed the new Chairman of the National Insurance Board.

Father Moultrie's appointment, which has been made in accordance with the provisions of the National Insurance Act, takes effect today.

Father Moultrie¹s career has been in education and public service, in the political sphere, in international diplomacy and for the past 18 years, in the religious life of the community.

Father Moultrie was a member of Parliament for the Rock Sound Constituency in Eleuthera, serving for 12 years (1980-1992).

During this time he also served as the Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Following his retirement from frontline politics, Father Moultrie served as Ambassador to the United Nations.

Following that, Father Moultrie pursued theological studies up to and including the doctorate level, and was ordained an Anglican priest, serving the Anglican Diocese for many years, most notably as Rector of the Church of the Holy Spirit (2002-2004) and then as the Rector of St Matthew's Anglican Church (2004 to 2011).

Father Moultrie and his wife, Bernadette, are the parents of three children and they have six grandchildren.

Prime Minister Perry Christie said: “My colleagues and I are delighted that Father Moultrie has accepted this appointment as the new Chairman of the National Insurance Board.

“He is a man of impeccable character, honesty and discipline who will bring to his new position great leadership skills and a solid understanding of the mission and mandate of the National Insurance Board.

An Anglican Preist appointed by the most corrupt oarty in our history...

That church really is starting to bother me, don't they have a head of the church? Should he or she not step in and say hey go take care of your flock and stay the hell out of politics?

Just the fact that he was appointed by the crooked, lying, tiefin PLP tells me this man has no honor and is as crooked as they are. Priest robes or not.

Don't know you too well Rev Moultrie, but I would like to warn you about the dangerous political game at play. I do believe that they are using your church robes to pass off any other dealings as honest and above board. Be careful as your church will also be called into question if anything else goes down, and I assure you will go wrong.

Best of luck!

Personally, I do believe that positions such as these and ministerial jobs should go to people with professional backgrounds in that field. Perhaps it will be a routine of the future.

What I don't like is the PM's constant resort to the old heads (mostly from the Pindling era who have already served) for these posts. While I don't question Fr. Moultrie's integrity I am concerned that our PM is not even trying to find young blood - and I am sure they are out there. How did the old heads get the experience in the first place? Didn't they have to start somewhere? And what will they do when these old heads die off and the new generation of PLP's have not yet been trained. Scary thought.

In order to gain the public trust you would have to go for someone that people may have respect for, I'm sorry to say the culture in the Bahamas is get something for nothing. So I would rather have someone that people have some trust in.

At least the PM didn't give the position to the former PLP candidate for Montagu and son-in-law of the people behind ARAWAK HOMES.
