Reader reaction to Blue Hole sale risk

FOLLOWING the news that the land around Dean’s Blue Hole in Long island may be sold and developed into a resort, Tribune readers responded with outrage and disbelief.

Here are some of their comments, posted on The Tribune’s facebook page or on www.tribune242.com

Tara KiKi-Melissa Cartwright said: “This is one of the seven wonders of the World and should never be placed up for sale!

“Once it’s sold, there will not be access. We all know that I am not knocking them for trying to send some development to Long Island, but please make sure we Bahamians are still allowed to go there freely.

“And as we have learned in the past, that ain’t gonna happen – so sad.”

Other commentators included:

Michael Riddim: “THAT’S RIDICULOUS . . . I don’t think long islanders will allow that to happen.”

Nathanya Vernisha Rolle: “WTH? Can’t be serious.”

Gladstone Patton III: “All this time someone owned it?”

Cherry Blueflowers: “So as far as I know a blue hole is WATER, how does one sell ocean water?

Nicole-Simone Harrison: “What ain’t for sale in the Bahamas?”

Heather Joy Albury: “How could they sell this, isn’t it a national treasure? Can’t we keep anything for ourselves?! I don’t think this is right at all. . . Also, I can’t believe when the property was initially bought, that a stipulation wasn’t included in the deed stating that the blue hole was not included in the parcel sold.”

Tenacious Dee: “Who the sells a blue hole? Before you know it, as Bahamians all we will be able to do is leave home and go to work. Our beaches are off limits to us in our own country, now this!”

Jimmilia Jay Murphy: “Stop selling the Bahamas to the world, all they going to do is to destroy our history and pride.”

Gambler Man Smith: “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!”

Rebecca Stevens: “Thats sad. Something so beautiful should not be for sale.”

MartGM: “How can a piece of land like this ever belong to anyone other than the Bahamian public???”

The power of the people saved Clifton. Today, it is a beautiful place. I've taken my kids to Dean's blue hole and hope they can take their kids.

Simply buy the land back if it has been sold. Far as I know, we are still a sovereign nation. Long Islanders would never allow one of our most glorious treasues to be blocked from residents and visitors. When will we hear from the BNT? This should have long time ago been declared a national park, and protected forever as one of the world's most unique natural wonders, known and celebrated locally and internationally. We are the chosen guardians of this rare gift and have been given the responsibility to preserve and protect its beauty for ourselves and generations to come.

It is amazing how the same [phenomena][1] happens all over the world. Rich people buy resorts
beaches and block them for their own usage. This should be stopped! Long Islanders would never allow one of our most glorious treasures to be blocked from their reach. The land is for everyone, even if you were not born with a silver cup.

Our natural resources should not be sold in money by greedy people! Some things should remain public property. We need [some spirit][1] in this world!
The islanders and the public should not let it happen!

Blue Hole Sale Risk will not be sold! I'm going to top do anything I can preventing it
Its about time we create boundaries between whats private and whats public. Not everything should be available to rich for buying, some assets belong to the public. This is for the future of our [anxious children][1]!

Tribunes could use their sacrosanctity to order the use of capital punishment against any person who interfered with their duties. Tribunes could also use their sacrosanctity as protection when physically manhandling an individual, such as when arresting someone. Thank you.

I agree with above. The whole world is talking about the Blue Holes of The Bahamas, as The Bahamas may have more blue holes than anywhere else in the world.

You can walk National Geographic groundbreaking documentary, " Blue Holes, Diving into the Labyrinth" this Saturday, August 20th on JCN TV, Channel 14 at 6pm. Watch a summary video by National Geographic within.
