EDITOR, The Tribune.
Some strange things are happening in our Bahamas. I have listened to all of the pros and cons of what is about to be forced on Bahamians.
It appears to me that the present Government thinks that Bahamians are a bunch of Junkanoos because if they thought the majority of Bahamians had good commonsense they would have thought this farce through a lot better.
They are using the economic situation to prey on people’s weaknesses, wants and needs.
No one in Government has yet indicated where the money derived from webshops will go, what percentages will go to where, or if any monies from this will go to Sports, Youth programmes, Education or underprivileged people. It may all be going into the Treasury to be mishandled by some unscrupulous politicians.
I have heard that some one filed with the Supreme Court to have the date put off or blocked to allow time for this to be done right even though that individual loves to gamble like I do.
No one in their right mind believes that they can stop gambling in the Bahamas and I would venture to say that next to prostitution it is probably the oldest profession on Earth and I say this because Cain gambled that when he killed Abel no one would find out.
If the P. M. really wanted webshops to be legalized he would have had a real referendum to legalize gambling in the Bahamas for all Bahamians, not just a select few.
I have talked with quite a few people that I know who play numbers and they all plan to vote NO.
It appears that the numbers people themselves are very much afraid of this now and that is why they are now trying to fool the public with the rumour that they are willing to sell shares.
We are now in 2013 and it is time that all future Governments of the Bahamas realize that they no longer are dealing with a public that swallows everything that is pushed into their mouths without questioning it.
I for one will be voting NO and anyone that I can influence will do the same.
