By JOAN KNOWLES-TURNQUEST
President Elect, Kawanis
WHAT began last administrative year as a project to simply install a door for a senior citizen has mushroomed into an entire house overhaul.
The brainchild of Kiwanian Mark Humes, this project was brought to the attention of the Kiwanis Club of Cable Beach after he saw the state in which this precious pearl was living.
Initially, Kiwanian Mark asked that the club purchase and install a door for the home, which at that time had no door for the elderly citizen to enter and exit her home.
However, when the members of the club went to the home and saw the state of disrepair, they decided that adding a new door to a dilapidated structure would not be sufficient nor appropriate.
Giving of their time, talents and treasures they met at the homestead almost weekly to ensure that not only were proper functioning doors installed, but a bathroom was also added.
As soon as the outdoor renovations are completed, it is expected that the Kiwanians will begin sprucing up the inside.
