Price tag for Independence celebrations ‘in time’

CHIEF Administrator of the 40th Anniversary Independence Secretariat, Jack Thompson said the price of the country’s 40th Independence Day celebrations will be revealed, “in time.”

Mr Thompson also dismissed reports of several alleged $40,000 celebrations being held abroad at various embassies and consulates.

That report surfaced on social media, on the personal Facebook blog of political commentator, Sharon Turner. She accused the government of “getting ready to have a wild spending spree in the name of Independence”.

She explained: “...Each foreign mission office ordinarily gets a budget for Independence, but the plan is to give all offices an extra approximately $40,000 a piece on top of their usual budgets...”

In response, Mr Thompson told The Tribune, yesterday: “I’m not aware of that, that’s all I’m going to say.”

As for a price-tag on the Independence celebrations which consisted of several events over the span of months, Mr Thompson said the secretariat does not yet have a final cost, but confirmed a total will be revealed.

“Not at this point, we’re working on it,” he said. “Not yet, but I’m sure in time you’ll be in formed.”

Who is managing anything I this country? You don't have any event and then wait till the bills come in to determine how much was spent...you have a clear idea of how much you have to spend and you plan your event accordingly. I would have said we shot ourselves in the foot on May-7-2012...buts its clear that we hit the brain

Jack Thompson is an honest man.

Give him time and let's hope that his hands are not tied.

So Jack stayed when all the other "honest" Civil servants rolled out or were rolled out in the 70's?
More Like Jack figured out how to keep his head down......
The Permanent Secretaries SHOULD be the ones to follow the rules and make sure the Elected do also.
Not working out well is it?
